Wines to Go with BBQ!

June 13, 2008 - Ashland

Cesari Duetorri Pinot Grigio ’07
Due Torri Pinot Grigio has a fresh, fruity nose and a brilliant, pale straw color. The taste is clean with mouth-filling texture and a crisp finish. One glass of this wine seems to invite a second. Pair this wine with all manners of seafood, shellfish, pasta with seafood sauces, and risottos based on seafood. It also goes well with light preparations of poultry and veal. The wine is perfect for a luncheon, by itself before a meal, or with appetizers.
Allyson’s Pairing: Gruyere

Kung Fu Girl Riesling ’07
A memorable name for a memorable wine; Kung Fu Girl Riesling, from Walla Walla based K Vintners, is so named, according to the company, "because Riesling and Girls kick ass!" From grapes grown in the rocky soils of Evergreen Vineyard in the Columbia Valley, this Riesling will surprise you with its one-two-punch of Asian pear and peach aromas combined with fruit and mineral flavors. And best of all? Your wallet won't take a beating.
Allyson’s Pairing: Delice D’ Bourgogne

Domaine De La Griveliere Cote Du Rhone ’07
Dark garnet in color, the aromas emerge from the glass as bright red fruits - cherry, raspberry and plum - and rose petal notes. In the mouth, the wine is smooth with flavors of cherry, blackberry, white pepper and clove. This wine can be paired with red meats as well as chicken and turkey. It is a wonderfully versatile wine.
Allyson’s Pairing: Pepper Coated Fromage D’Affinois

Bodegas Brenton Lorinon Rioja ’04
2004 produced wines of excellent quality for all aging levels, the Crianza is among the most concentrated yet produced at Bretón. While a pleasure to drink over the coming months, this wine would well reward cellaring an extra case. 70% Tempranillo, 20% Mazuelo, 5% Graciano and 5% Garnacha, aged 15 months in American oak averaging 5 years old.
Allyson’s Pairing: Rogue Creamery Cheddar

Cline Acient Vine Mourvedre ’06
Cline Ancient Vines Mourvèdre offers distinct chocolate characteristics and a luscious deep plum flavor. Tannins are soft with a substantial mouth-feel. A delicious and unusually delightful wine.
