April 25, 2008

Viano Vineyards Petite Sirah 2003 - California
A wine of rusticity, the full-flavored Viano Petite Sirah exhibits tasty flavors of very ripe fruit that lasts long on the palate; excellent with spicy grilled meats.
Allyson’s Pairing: Delice D’Bourgogne

Abundance Petite Sirah 2004 – California
The dark garnet plum color of this wine is enough to get any connoisseur interested. On the nose, this Petite opens with slightly spice and coffee aromas and continues with ripe Bing cherries and blackberries. With further aeration of the wine, the aroma profile develops with more ripened fruit flavors overpowering the spice.
Allyson’s Pairing: Taleggio

Pedroncelli Dry Creek Family Vineyard Petite Sirah 2003 - California
This is a rich, beautiful wine. Dark garnet color heavy bodied. Not for the weak of tongue. The nose is an amazing mix of dark berries, vanilla and plums. Just go buy a bottle!
Allyson’s Pairing: Pyrnees Vache w/green peppercorns

Castle Rock Petite Sirah Russian River Valley 2005 – California
This Petite Sirah is a dark and full-bodied, deeply concentrated wine, yielding aromas of ripe berry, coffee, grain and spice. On the palate it carries layers of ripe cherry, blackberry and plum. Its finish is long-lasting and harmonious with well-integrated tannins. It makes an excellent accompaniment to beef, game, spicy grilled food or charbroiled meats.
Allyson’s Pairing: Old Amsterdam Gouda

Vinum Pets Petite Sirah 2006 – California
Deep candy apple red, translucent. Deep sweet fruit aromas (cassis, framboise, blueberry) are supported by toasty oak, cinammon, and roasted vegetables. The mouthfeel is gripping but not overpowering, a nice balance. The deep, concentrated, blue and red fruit flavors dominate the anything-but-petite finish.
Allyson’s Pairing: Raw Milk Cheddar

Spellbound Petite Sirah 2004 – California
The purple color catches you immediately and your eyes begin to taste. Aromas of violets and roses jump out of the glass. Flavors of fresh berries along with mocha and coffee dance on your palate. A broad structure with integrated, delicate tannins, create a great mouthfeel and an unmistakable desire for the next sip
Allyson’s Pairing: Blanzart dark chocolate
