P. S. I Love You

September 14, 2007

Concannon Petite Sirah ’03
Be prepared for a tasty, totally opaque, inky-black wine that shows up in the glass. The nose displays dark plums and dark berries, bittersweet chocolate, and some spicy oak. Medium-bodied, well-balanced, velvety mouth feel.
Allyson’s Pairing: Fromage d’ Affinois

Spellbound Petite Sirah ’03
This 2003 exemplifies the irresistible characteristics that are Petite Sirah. The purple color catches you immediately and your eyes begin to taste. Aromas of violet and rose jump out of the glass. Flavors of fresh berries, along with mocha and coffee dance on your palate. A broad structure with integrated, delicate tannins, create a great mouth feel and an unmistakable desire for the next sip.
Allyson’s Pairing: Aged Mahon

Red Rover Petite Sirah ’03
On the nose, luscious boysenberry is accented with hints of black pepper, mocha and violets. Trademark inky and jammy flavors fill the mouth with ripe fruit and berries, layered with spicy notes of anise and a rich undercurrent of oak. The tannins are smooth and supple; creating a wine that is the perfect accompaniment to a wide range of dishes including roast lamb, pork and game.
Allyson’s Pairing: Taleggio

Foppiano Petite Sirah ’03
Foppiano is a leader in the Petite Sirah movement, with a long history of producing this dark, dry, full-bodied wine. This one's powerful in coffee and blackberry fruit, and scoury in acids and tannins. It will easily ride out the next 15 years, but will never lose its rusticity.
Allyson’s Pairing: Truffle Tremor

David Bruce Petite Sirah ’03
Dark plum purple, complex, effusive aromas mingle cedar, wood, eucalyptus, herbs, asparagus, flowers, mild berries and smoke. Clean, deep, mildly grapey, peppery, delicious and straightforward. Medium to full body, slightly rich, well-balanced, tannic, with a little bite in the long, very dry finish.
Allyson’s Pairing: Pyrenees Peppercorn Vache

Viano Petite Sirah ’03
Using the most natural, cultural practices possible and combined with traditional winemaking techniques, which includes natural yeast and aging in small oak cooperage, makes this petite sirah one to try. The flavors are of dark ripe berries and smokiness. The tannins are subtle and has an oaky finish that would pair well with spicy dishes.
Allyson’s Pairing: Raw-milk Roquefort
